Tattoo Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential for maintaining the quality and longevity
of your new tattoo.
To minimise complications, and to get the best end result, you have to follow these steps. Every step is important, so be patient and read the instructions carefully.
Step 1
In the first 72 hours after tattoing, you should allow your skin to rest. This means that you should not remove the protection patch. On the third day carefully remove the patch and gently wash your tattoo under warm running water using a mild soap. Be sure that all secretions and soap residue are getting rinsed off properly. After washing the tattoo lightly pat it dry with a clean towel and let it air dry for one or two hours.
Step 2
With clean hands apply a thin layer of moisturising ointment. Rub the cream in gently as this will help to stimulate the skin and improve blood flow in the affected area which helps in the healing process. Keep your tattoo moist with cream for most of the time during after care. I recommend using vegan-friendly and eco-friendly aftercare products to promote healing and sustainability (available for purchase in my studio :) .
Step 3
Your tattoo should be completely healed after 21 days and you can admire it in its full glory. 😊 But during the first three weeks after tattooing your skin needs special care:
-
Do not expose it to direct sunlight
-
avoid saunas, spas, tubs, pools and water sports
-
Keep your tattoo out of salt water and chlorine
-
Never apply spray-tan lotion during the healing process
-
Do not shave, wax or exfoliate the area until fully healed
-
Be sure any clothing that touches your tattoo is soft and clean. Tight clothing, polyester and nylons can rub and lead to heavier than normal scrubbing of the tattoo.
-
During the healing process your skin might feel dry and tight. You will need to continue applying cream as mentioned in Step 2 to keep it moisturized.
-
You will notice a light flaking of the skin which resembles sunburn peeling - except, sometimes the skin flakes will have some ink pigments in it. Don’t panic as this is completely normal!
Important!
Occasionally a scab will form and any itching that accompanies this is perfectly normal. Never pick or scratch the scab or help it fall off, otherwise it can cause your tattoo to bleed which could result in pigment loss. If you experience any problems with these after care instructions, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Your tattoo has been created by an expert under strict hygienic conditions. Now it’s your turn to keep it clean and care for it properly.
I advice you to use a sun block (SPF 50+ or above) to reduce fading over time.
